Born in New York City, John moved to Tenafly, NJ in 1952. He was educated
at Mt. Carmel Grammar School in Tenafly, Bergen Catholic High School in
Oradell, NJ, and graduated from Fordham University in 1968. In 1970, he
obtained his New Jersey Funeral Director's license, and in 1988, his Florida
Funeral Director's license. John initially pursued a career in Marketing,
and joined National Airlines in Newark as a Marketing Representative in
1971. For thirty years, he worked in the airline and travel industry as
a Manager in Marketing, Operations & Customer Service. While in the travel
industry, he was President of the New Jersey Airline Sales Managers, The
Northern New Jersey Chapter of the International Travel Organization "SKAL"
and the Pan Am Management Club in New York City. In 1998, John retired
from Delta Air Lines and assumed responsibility for the management of
Barrett Funeral Home. This career transition enabled him to join the family
business, a choice that held a great appeal to him. John currently lives
in Tenafly and is actively involved with local church and civic groups.

Thomas V. Barrett, Jr. was born in Englewood, New Jersey on October 29,
1948. He grew up in Tenafly, NJ, where he attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel
grammar school. He later attended Bergen Catholic High School, and graduated
from Villanova University in 1970. He obtained his degree in mortuary
science in 1974 from The American Academy McCalaster Institute of Funeral
Service. In 1976, he received his New York and New Jersey Funeral Director's
licenses. In 1980, Tom became the manager of the John J. Barrett & Son
funeral home on West 51st Street in New York City. Over the years, he
developed strong ties with the West Side community, in which he was both
a resident and business owner. He is a member of the West 51st Street
Block Association, The Ninth Avenue Association, and most recently, he
joined the Midtown West Business Association. He has supported various
community endeavors, such as sponsoring local athletic teams. In 1983,
he married a woman from the neighborhood, Christine, and became the stepfather
of Kimalisa. His son Daniel John was born in 1986, followed by the birth
of Julia Rose in 1990. In 1991, Tom and his family moved to Tenafly, NJ,
and he began commuting to the West 51st Street funeral home. Once again,
Tom became an active member in his new community. As current parishioners
of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Tom and Christine are involved in fundraisers
and various community building activities. Tom has also coached his daughter's
school basketball team for the last 4 years.

Steven Hamersma is a graduate of West Essex Regional High School in North
Caldwell, NJ, as well as Mercer County College. While attending Mercer
County College, he completed the certification program for mortuary science.
Steven and his wife, Tammy, have four children: Michael, Paul, Christopher,
and Maraea. In 1985, Steven received his license as a funeral director
for the state of New Jersey. In 1988, he received his funeral director's
and embalmer's license for the state of Florida. Steven is very active
in his community, and is a well-liked and respected family man. He is
actively involved in the extracurricular activities of his children, and
acts on the Board of Directors for the Tenafly Lions Little League. He
takes great pride in these activities and is esteemed by members of his
community. He has been employed with the Barrett Funeral Home since 1985.

Brian was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to River Edge, NJ in 1943. He
and his wife, Eileen, have three adult children: Sean, a police officer;
Valerie, a high school teacher; and Erin, a registered nurse. A 1962 graduate
of Bergen Catholic High School, Brian earned an Associate's Degree in
Political Science from Bergen Community College in 1976. He continued
his education at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY, where he
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1982. While
earning his degrees, Brian served as a volunteer firefighter for ten years,
as well as developing a successful construction business in New Jersey,
Hammel & Son, with his son, Sean. During this same time period, Brian
served the Borough of River Edge as a police officer, retiring from the
department in 1998 with the rank of Sergeant and thirty-three years of
service to his credit. Two days following his retirement, Brian commenced
funeral service studies at Mercer County Community college in Trenton,
NJ. He graduated with an Associate's Degree in Mortuary Science and completed
his mandatory internship at Barrett Funeral Home in December of 1999.
In that same month, Brian completed the State and National licensing exams
and joined Barrett Funeral Home as a full-time licensed funeral director.
He brings to his vocation a lifetime of experience in service to others,
as well as a natural ability to empathize with our clients in times of
sorrow. Utilizing his highly developed technical skills, Brian takes pride
in bringing comfort to the families we serve at Barrett Funeral Home.

Thomas V. Barrett was born in New York City in 1914. At an early age,
he moved to West New York, NJ, where he later graduated from Memorial
High School in 1932. He attended Fordham University, graduating in 1937,
and immediately accepted a position with Metropolitan Life Insurance.
In 1942, he joined the United States Army and was assigned to the State
Department as a Courier. Later that year, he married Elizabeth (Betty)
Davock of West New York. As a representative of the State Department,
he traveled extensively to Europe, as well as Latin & South America. He
was discharged from the Army as a Captain in 1945, and returned to Met
Life. Upon the death of his father in 1947, he assumed management of the
John J. Barrett Funeral Home in New York City. In 1965, he purchased the
Pell Funeral Home in Tenafly, NJ, and changed the name of the facility
to Barrett Funeral Home. In the 30 years that he owned the Tenafly funeral
home, he made major improvements, including an addition that tripled the
size of the facility. Tom was active in various organizations in Tenafly.
He passed away on March 12, 2002, at his winter home in Delray Beach,
Florida. He is dearly missed by his family, friends, and community.
